The early gold coins of Mexico are of the Spanish colonial type cobs and round coins with various Spanish Kings starting in 1519 when Mexico was a separate part of Spanish New World Empire. Mexico became a Republic in 1823 and issued its own gold coins through 1921 that are collectable. Mexico is known for its 50 Peso, its gold bullion coin of today.
