Persian Gold Dinar
Persian Gold Dinar (Ashrafi) 1500-1750. Successors the Byzantines in the area now known as Iran, and then ruled by the Samanids, later Islamic Arabs. The coin name is derived from the Roman Denarious, weighed about eight grams and was twenty millimeters in diameter. Various coin types were used locally over two hundred years in the Middle East and North Africa, and are still found as far north as Spain.
