South African Gold Krugerrand
South African Gold Krugerrand. Made 1967 to date. Gold coins that were made by the South Africans entirely to sell gold, and by 1980 the Krugerrand had over ninety percent of the global market in gold bullion coins. At least sixty million have been made, and probably twenty two million of these of those were sold to Americans between 1974 and 1985 alone. Each one troy ounce coin weighs 33.956 grams and contains exactly 1.09 ounces of gold, making them 22 Kt. gold, or 91.67% gold. In 1985 they were banned in the US, until the election of Nelson Mandela in 1995. By then there were other coins, primarily the gold Maple Leaf to choice from that had less expensive premiums over gold. Krugerrands come in one ounce, one half ounce, one quarter ounce and one tenth ounce coins. We buy and sell Krugerrands.
